Official Cycle News Press Release:
Cycle News has ceased publication (at least for now) as of Tuesday. August 31. We wish to thank all of our loyal readers and supporters, many of which have been with us for 40 years and more. The people and the companies in the motorcycle industry and sport have been great partners and soul mates for these many years and we have all “grown up” together. We hope to find a new owner to carry on this iconic publication and we thank you in advance for your future support if we are successful.
Again, our heartfelt thanks for all your support.
Like so many motorcycle journalist I too was a contributor to Cycle News. Over the years I covered my local Englishtown racing events for the newspaper and most recently the website. One of my favorite Cycle News memories happened when their regular contributor couldn’t attend the KROC due to other commitments and I was asked to step in and file the report. Seeing my work on a 2-page spread in such an iconic publication was a great feeling and a sign that I “made it” in my journalism career.
I am sad to Cycle News go. Perhaps they will re-emerge from the ashes and start anew, or perhaps this is the end. Either way, I am grateful to the staff at Cycle News for all they did for so many moto journalists jump-starting their career.
Thank you for the memories Cycle News.
Update – Cycle News is back, better than ever. Although they no longer feature amateur race coverage like they used to do, the weekly newspaper is available online at cyclenews.com – During the time they were shut down, the new team at Cycle News digitally scanned all of the issues of Cycle News West and then Cycle News and they are available online HERE in each decade.
