Friends Stuff Friday – Tony Camaioni

Friends Stuff Friday – Tony Camaioni

This week I’d like to recognize Tony Camaioni. I remember a couple of years ago when Tony was just getting into photography. He reached out to me with questions. It’s not like I’m an expert but it was good to provide whatever information I could. He went all in, learning about the technical side of creating images, not just pointing and shooting. It seemed like he was always shooting something trying to get better. Fast forward to the last couple of weeks and he’s going wide open.

Just a little insight. Since August, Tony has spent 2 weeks at Loretta Lynn’s shooting photos, then Unadilla, then Budd’s Creek, then the Maine Event, then Raceway Park, and I even saw that he’s at the Moto America race in Millville NJ this weekend trying to capture some road racing images.

Well done Tony.

What is Friends Stuff Friday?  I am fortunate to have some incredibly talented friends and acquaintances, and I got to thinking, how can I let the world know about them and what they do? That’s where this post comes in. Each week, I’ll gather up some of the cool stuff that people I know have done or are involved with and post it here for everyone to see. If you like what they are doing, give them a follow, drop them a message, and let them know how cool what they are doing is. I have to admit, this isn’t an original idea; I did something like it on social media a long time ago; I just felt it was the right time to get it going again.

Friends Stuff Friday – Motocross Photographers

So I started this up earlier this year and then let it fade away again. I’ve made a commitment to myself to recognize the cool people that are in my life and the great things they do. So Friend’s Stuff Friday is back.

This week I’d like to recognize the photographers and filmers that travel with the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross and provide the content that you see in the magazines and on websites for each event. There are so many people to mention but here is a list that I put together off the top of my head. Check them out online and support them whenever you can.

Here is a short list – if I forgot you I’m sorry, send me your info and I’ll get you added to the list. 😀

Friends Stuff Friday – Rene Kotopoulis

So I started this up earlier this year and then let it fade away again. I’ve made a commitment to myself to recognize the cool people that are in my life and the great things they do. So Friend’s Stuff Friday is back.

This week, I’d like to recognize Rene Kotopoulis. Back in the 80s, Rene was shooting motocross photos for several media outlets and Raceway News and you can see some of her work on the Lukaitis Photo website in this gallery. https://lukaitisphoto.smugmug.com/Guest-Photographer-Rene-Kotopoulis/

Several years ago, Rene gave me a bunch of slides to scan and the galleries you see there are the result of those efforts. Recently, she’s been scanning some of her old national motocross images, some of which can be seen on her Facebook page as well as next week on ThePrivateersStory.com

Rene is also a part of the NJ Motocross community, still rides, and is just a really great person that I am proud to call a friend.

Friends Stuff Friday – Volume 4 – John Sigismondi

Friends Stuff Friday – Volume 4 – John Sigismondi

Friends stuff Friday – Volume 4 – This week’s Friends Stuff Friday is a moto friend that I’ve known forever. I seem to recall meeting John Sigismondi when I was working at Woodbridge Powersports in the late 80s. John rode for the shop, and after a couple of years into his support ride, he came to me and asked if the owner would be interested in supporting a racing team. The “team” would all have the same gear and sponsors, just like they do professionally, and our local racers would race the local tracks, all presenting a professional image to drive business to the shop. My memory escapes me now, but I remember Jim Kapitan, Mike Peat, Jimmy McIlvaine, and John being involved with the team the first year. I think it was 1995, and I recall John lining up sponsorship for the team from companies like Thor, FMF, and Pirelli. Maybe John can find some old photos of the team.

Anyway, from there, John kept on hustling, eventually winding up at what is now Feld Entertainment taking care of freestyle events across the country. He moved to Florida, where he and his wife Kim raised their children and built themselves a great life.

Now for the cool thing that John is up to at the moment. He and his son Jack are at the helm of the new and improved Tampa MX track. They purchased the track from the previous owners, and with the help of another Jersey guy, Bobby Jimenez, they’ve rebuilt the entire track and are doing great things for the local motocross scene.

If I know one thing about John, when he puts his mind to something, watch out, great things will follow.

If you are in the Tampa, FL area, check it out and tell him I said hi.

Friends Stuff Friday – Volume 3 – Dale Spangler

Friends Stuff Friday – Volume 3 – Dale Spangler

Friends stuff Friday – Volume 3 – Another friend from the moto business. This week’s edition is Dale Spangler. It’s strange for as many years as we were both in the powersports business we only met face-to-face for the first time a couple of years ago at a Tucker Show.

Dale was an accomplished racer back in the day but his real talent is producing copy and content for various powersports clients. He worked for many years at WPS and then Tucker but when the pandemic hit, his position was a victim of budget cuts at Tucker. Now he’s on his own with his company Buzz Media and he is producing great content.

More about Dale and his business can be found at dalespangler.com – head on over and see if he can help you.
