Here is a recent race report I wrote wrapping up the 2014 Supercross series.
The 2014 Monster Energy Supercross series drew to a close on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV. A sold out crowd braved the 90+ degree afternoon temperatures to watch the season come to a close. Bel-Ray racer Jason Anderson scored the first championship of his career in the 250 class, while three of Bel-Ray’s 450 riders finished inside the top 10 in the series standings.
Jason Anderson of the Bel-Ray supported Rockstar Energy Racing team had a stunning season, making each race exciting. From his come-from-behind victories on the last laps in Anaheim and Phoenix to overcoming adversity and off-track excursions in Seattle, Anderson was a force in the 250 West Coast Series. Anderson won four main events during the season, and he won the championship by five points over his nearest rival. Anderson is a certain threat inthe outdoors series, which begins on May 24th in San Bernardino, CA.
In the 450 class, Andrew Short of the BTO Sports-KTM-WPS team was the top Bel-Ray racer in the series. A 10th place finish in Las Vegas secured his 6th place overall finish in the series standings. Short was one of only six racers to compete in every main event during the 2014 season. Short is an accomplished outdoor motocross racer and will be a threat in the outdoor series, which begins in May.
Following Short in the points standings, in 8th place, was RCH racer Josh Hill. A solid ride in Las Vegas from the back of the pack led to an eventual 6th place finish for Hill. While a broken collarbone at the beginning of the season looked like it would derail the likeable Hill, he charged back strong as the series drew to a close to cement his position inside the top 10. Hill’s teammate Broc Tickle also missed several rounds of the 2014 season, which included a series-ending crash in Round 12 in Toronto. Despite missing the end of the series, Tickle finished in 9th place overall. Tickle is planning for a late season comeback in the outdoor series.
Other Bel-Ray racers in the 450 class included BTO Sports-KTM-WPS racer Matt Goerke and Rockstar Energy Racing’s Ivan Tedesco. Both riders missed the end of the series due to injuries. Nevertheless, Goerke completed the series in 19th place overall, while Tedesco finished 21st. Goerke is expected to come back early in the outdoor series, while Tedesco is expected to be on the gate for the series opener but for Rockstar KTM. Instead, he will be on the Bel-Ray-supported RCH Suzuki for the outdoor series. He will be joined by privateer hero Weston Peick, who will be making his RCH Suzuki debut at San Bernardino.
Also making comebacks for the national series are Bel-Ray-backed Rockstar Energy Racing’s Joey Savatgy in the 250 class and Davi Millsaps in the 450 class. Both are expected to return from early season injuries to join the national tour.
All three of Bel-Ray’s supported race teams and their riders rely on Bel-Ray lubricants to protect their machines and provide maximum power.
