Thank you. 2 simple words that when said sincerely mean so much.
First of all, congratulations to all of those racers that made the podium at Loretta Lynn’s last week. You proved your skill and prowess to nab that all-important podium interview. Time to thank your sponsors for all that they do and while you remember the first couple you end with anyone I forgot, Thank you.
Missed opportunity. These companies put their resources into your racing efforts be it with free product, discounted product, their time and efforts, and you don’t remember their name. Very disappointing.
Saying thank you in a sincere and humble way is a very important part of a sponsored riders activities. Don’t let these opportunities pass.
As your race to Loretta’s or the season in general draws to a close take this opportunity to thank those who made it possible. Both publicly and privately.
Publicly you can use social media to thank them for their support. Write a long form post explaining that their support made it possible to achieve your goals. Whenever possible, be specific like how the wide field of vision of your Scott Goggles-enabled you to see your way to victory or how the new Golden Tyre model hooked up in the Tennessee mud. If your sponsor is a local business, perhaps a small ad in the local paper would be appropriate. There are many ways for a public thank you, just get creative and let it fly.
Now for a private thank you. How about a handwritten note sent to the person you deal with at each sponsor. I can personally attest to the smile that comes over my face when a racer takes the time to write to me with a sincere thank you. Include a small photo from the event for the extra special touch.
All of these things go a long way to separate you from all of the rest. Remember sponsorships are just business agreements and the more benefits you can provide to the sponsor the better that relationship will be. The motorcycle industry is a small, close-knit group of people. Everyone does know everyone. But don’t just do it for the benefits you think you’ll see.
Do it because it is the right thing to do.
