DRR USA Beats Industry Giant Can Am to the Punch with First Ever Electric ATV
In a true David versus Goliath story shaking up the powersports industry, Ohio based manufacturer DRR USA has emerged as the first company to bring a fully electric ATV to market, beating global heavyweight Can Am in the race to electrify off road vehicles. The milestone positions DRR USA as a technology leader and proves that innovation can come from small, agile, family run companies, not only billion dollar corporations.
While many manufacturers paused development during the pandemic, DRR USA leaned forward. Known for building high quality youth and racing ATVs, the company invested in years of real world testing and in house engineering to create an electric ATV that performs in the same demanding environments as traditional gas powered machines. Rather than relying on laboratory simulations, DRR tested its vehicles on trails, farms, parks, and commercial sites where durability, range, and reliability matter most.
The result is the DRR EV Adventure, a rugged fully electric ATV that delivers strong torque, quiet operation, reduced maintenance, and lower operating costs. The vehicle is already being used in recreational, commercial, and agricultural settings, offering solutions to noise restrictions, rising fuel prices, and environmental concerns without sacrificing performance.
“We did not wait for the future, we built it, ” said Louis DeCuzzi, President of DRR USA. “While larger brands were still evaluating electric concepts, our team was already riding, testing, and delivering electric ATVs to real customers. This was about solving real problems and giving riders a machine they can trust.”
Can Am, one of the most recognized names in powersports and a subsidiary of BRP Inc., only recently announced its own electric ATV program, years after DRR USA had already placed working models in the field. DRR’s early entry highlights the company’s ability to move quickly, listen to customers, and innovate without the delays often seen in large corporate development cycles.
Founded with a mission to build safer and more reliable ATVs, DRR USA used the challenges of the COVID 19 era as motivation rather than a roadblock. Their early leadership in electric off road technology now positions the company as a pioneer in a market that is rapidly shifting toward electrification.

ENGINE
In the heart of the RIDGE, Kawasaki’s latest marvel beats a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke in-line 4-cylinder engine—a powerhouse that not only defines performance but redefines the thrill of driving. This engineering masterpiece, meticulously crafted with a bore and stroke of 73.4 x 59.0mm, delivers 116 hp† and 73.8 ft-lbs of torque propelling the RIDGE CREW to new heights, delivering a symphony of power and torque for both work and play.
As the accelerator pedal is pressed, a crisp response echoes through the vehicle, ideal for those seeking the thrill of riding off-road. The smooth and predictable feedback from the engine not only facilitates control but elevates the driving experience with superb power feeling and acceleration.
Amidst the exhilarating acceleration, the distinct exhaust note of the in-line 4-cylinder engine adds a musical touch to the driving excitement. However, in the everyday-use range, the engine’s purr is subdued enough to allow for easy conversation within the cab contributing to the overall ride comfort and high-quality experience. The engine’s rubber-mounted design reduces vibrations contributing to a comfortable ride, even in demanding conditions. The thoughtful design extends to the snorkel-style intake, strategically positioned under the hood to minimize the risk of dust or water ingestion. A high-performance Donaldson air filter stands guard.
The electronic throttle valve system takes center stage, allowing the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to intricately control both fuel and air delivery. The result is a seamless and natural engine response, with a single 52mm throttle body chosen to evoke a smooth, driver-friendly reaction. Fine-atomizing injectors, with a droplet size of 60 microns, contribute to efficient combustion and instantaneous engine response. The synergy of components is further demonstrated by 29mm intake valves and 24mm exhaust valves, striking a balance between low-rpm and mid-to high-rpm performance. The large-diameter 35mm tail pipe, a testament to the high-performance aspirations of the RIDGE lineup, amplifies the excitement during high-rpm endeavors.
The engineering prowess extends to the rear-facing exhaust ports, strategically designed to keep engine heat away from the cab. A dual heat shield adds an extra layer of heat shielding, showcasing meticulous attention to detail. The intentional lengthening of the exhaust pipe enhances low-end performance, a testament to the dedication to optimizing every aspect of the engine’s functionality.
Baffle plates in the oil pan ensure a consistent oil supply to the pump, even during high-speed cornering, underscoring the commitment to reliability. The large-capacity 1,120 W generator further enhances the versatility of the RIDGE, providing ample power for heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and a variety of accessories. A cooling fan strategically placed on the right side of the engine block efficiently pushes hot air out, helping to keep the cab temperatures down.
The large-capacity radiator, positioned at the front behind the grille, benefits from an optimal location to receive cooling air, ensuring consistent performance. The seamlessly integrated continuously variable transmission (CVT) adds to the smooth response, creating a driving experience that feels both intuitive and exhilarating. The engineers behind the RIDGE refined the CVT settings to simulate the characteristics of a CVT and centrifugal clutch combination. This meticulous tuning results in a silky-smooth power delivery and quieter engine operation. The collaboration between the electronic throttle valve and the precisely controlled CVT is tuned to provide engine braking, providing a dependable and stable deceleration experience. Whether descending slopes or coming to a complete stop, the engine braking effect instills confidence in the driver.
New to the 2026 RIDGE models (except ST models), an idle collar on the primary pulley shaft helps eliminate belt flutter, enhancing the direct, responsive feel riders expect, while reducing belt slack and improving acceleration. A CVT belt converter ratio update on RIDGE models complements these changes, and a sound-dampening rubber sheet added to the back of the cabin further minimizes unwanted engine noise.
The gear selection—High, Low, or Reverse—feels smooth and intuitive. Every shift is effortless, adding to a driving experience that’s not just strong but genuinely refined. The Kawasaki RIDGE lineup, powered by its Kawasaki-built 999cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke inline-four engine, is more than just a set of machines. It delivers a blend of power, precision, and excitement that reflects true engineering dedication. Out on the trail, it doesn’t just perform—it makes an impression, setting a new standard for what it means to drive with real passion and purpose.
POWER MODE SELECTION
The Kawasaki RIDGE side x sides offer the freedom to choose from Work, Normal, and Sport modes to tailor power delivery to their preferences and driving conditions.
Work mode provides a gentler throttle response, ideal for carrying a load or maintaining a steady, controlled pace. Even on uneven terrain, its calibrated response helps prevent sudden changes in vehicle speed or engine RPM, enhancing ride comfort. At low speeds, precise control can be achieved using only the gas pedal, making tasks like aligning a trailer hitch simple and intuitive. Sport mode delivers a sharper, more linear throttle response for higher-speed driving, offering a direct connection between the gas pedal and engine. Pressing the pedal produces rapid RPM increases and strong acceleration, unleashing the engine’s full potential when needed. Normal mode offers a balance between the two, providing smooth and predictable engine response from the moment the throttle is engaged.
ON-THE-FLY ELECTRICALLY SELECTABLE FRONT & REAR DIFF LOCK
Electrically selectable 4WD and front and rear differential locks let drivers quickly and easily switch between drive systems to match changing terrain and conditions while on the move. In 2WD, steering remains light, while 4WD provides enhanced traction without compromising maneuverability. Engaging 4WD with differential locks delivers maximum traction, as each pair of wheels acts as a single axle, preventing free spinning in low-traction situations or when a wheel is suspended, giving the RIDGE side x side true all-wheel-drive capability. Once the switch is activated, the system engages smoothly and promptly, ensuring the driver maintains precise control over when 4WD and the differential locks are engaged, making it easier to tackle challenging terrain or navigate obstacles with confidence.
RANGE AND MAINTENANCE
The nearly 13-gallon fuel tank provides a generous range between fill-ups, minimizing interruptions during tasks or allowing extended adventures on the trail. Positioned well away from the wheels, the fuel tank is shielded from potential impacts by flying debris, further enhanced by a protective steel guard.
Routine maintenance is achieved with easily located oil and air filter locations; the oil filter is easily accessed by removing the fender panel forward of the rear wheel. The air filter on the RIDGE is located under the bench seat. In the RIDGE® CREW HVAC models the filter is accessed by lifting the rear bench seat.
CHASSIS
Designed with comfort in mind, the RIDGE chassis features a wide stance that delivers composed handling and a smooth ride. Its frame was engineered to accommodate long-travel
suspension and the concurrently designed full cab, ensuring a high level of comfort. Even on the move, low noise and minimal vibration create a quiet cabin environment that helps maintain focus and efficiency, even on longer journeys.
The RIDGE track—approximately 53.5 inches front and rear on 2-door models, and 54 inches front with 53.5 inches rear on RIDGE CREW models—enhances overall stability, while front and rear independent suspension further contributes to ride comfort. On RIDGE models, a 90.7-inch wheelbase provides a roomy cabin with ample legroom while keeping the overall length manageable, and enables a tight 14.7-ft. turning radius for easy maneuvering on trails or ridgelines. RIDGE CREW models feature frames roughly 31.5 inches longer to accommodate rear seating and additional interior space, with a 122.2-inch wheelbase and a 19.0-ft. turning radius.
High ground clearance—ranging from 13.4 to 15.7 inches depending on model and preload—reduces the risk of scraping the underbody, improves accessibility, and supports a favorable breakover angle for navigating ridges or obstacles without bottoming out. High approach and departure angles further enhance off-road capability, while minimal bodywork overhang keeps wheels close to the bumpers to reduce the chance of contact on steep slopes. Steel plates positioned behind the front fenders provide additional protection from rocks and other debris, ensuring the RIDGE maintains durability in demanding conditions.
The RIDGE features double-wishbone suspension at both the front and rear, allowing each wheel to navigate obstacles with minimal impact on the chassis. Complementing the chassis’ balanced flex, shock absorbers with dual-rate springs provide excellent bump absorption and performance over rough terrain, keeping the cabin smooth and undisturbed while the suspension follows the roughness of the ground. Suspension tuning also helps limit chassis roll speed, delivering a composed ride for passengers, while optimized damping on RIDGE Crew models enhances stability, reduces the likelihood of bottoming out, and provides a planted feel.
New for 2026 (except the ST models), a new front stabilizer bar helps suppress chassis roll during medium- to high-speed cornering, further improving comfort and control. Long wheel travel—12.7 inches front and 12.6 inches rear—supports both ride comfort and high ground clearance. Rear shock absorbers are mounted to the lower A-arms, allowing extended shock stroke while keeping the cargo bed at a practical height for loading. Both front and rear shocks feature 5-way adjustable preload on non-California models, providing versatility for varying terrain and load conditions.
The RIDGE features front and rear 9.8-inch disc brakes with hydraulic actuation for strong, predictable stopping power. Two-piston front calipers and single-piston rear calipers provide balanced braking, with larger pistons on RIDGE CREW models to handle the longer chassis. Stretch-resistant brake lines improve hydraulic delivery, and carefully selected brake pads ensure precise control. The dash-mounted parking brake engages the rear brakes, while the ECU prevents engine movement if the parking brake is left on, enhancing safety.
Riding on 30-inch large-diameter tires mounted to 14-inch aluminum wheels, the RIDGE enhances off-road capability and smooth travel between worksites. The tall tires contribute to high ground clearance and allow the vehicle to clear small obstacles more easily, maintaining momentum and improving ride comfort. Both front and rear tires are 10-inches wide, so a single spare is sufficient in case of a flat. On RIDGE and RIDGE CREW models, machined wheel rims highlight their size and add a rugged, active look. New to 2026, the Camouflage HVAC models feature all-black wheels.
The cargo bed, measuring 34.6 x 49 x 12.8-inches with a load capacity of 1,000 lbs. is designed for substantial loads. Its flat design facilitates loading from three sides. Four built-in hooks provide convenient tie-down points. The gas-assisted tilting cargo bed features tilting-release levers on both sides, allowing easy access to the engine. The bed incorporates a single-latch tailgate release system for convenient opening and closing. The cargo bed walls have slots for cargo dividers, enhancing the secure stowing of items. Octagonal slots in the cargo bed walls accommodate the new-style optional KQR™ accessory mounts, enabling snap-mounted attachment of items to the cargo bed rails. Additionally, the RIDGE boasts a towing capacity of 2,500 lbs. and a standard 2-inch tow hitch receiver is compatible with a variety of accessory hitches.
AUTOMOTIVE-INSPIRED FIT AND FINISH
Complementing its rugged, active styling, the RIDGE features a premium exterior with painted fenders and full LED lighting. Line-type LED position lights and bright headlights (48.6 W / 22.2 W) create a fierce front expression, enhanced by a large aluminum Kawasaki emblem on the grille, a lightweight steel bumper with black finish, and LED accent lights on the bumper shrouds (except ST Models). An air scoop built into the hood adds to the aggressive look, while RIDGE Platinum Ranch Edition HVAC models include a front brush guard for even tougher styling. Front wheel wells feature a beveled leading edge that deflects mud away from doors and the cargo bed, keeping high-contact areas cleaner.
On RIDGE CREW models, the longer proportions are balanced with recessed and angled door designs, and integrated graphics across the doors and cargo bed walls maintain the forward-leaning, distinctive ridge stance. At the rear, pickup-truck-style LED taillights add to the overall automotive-style fit and finish.
On RIDGE models, the roomy cabin comfortably seats three, with contoured seating for the driver and right-side passenger.
New for 2026, the RIDGE driver’s seat features a revised bottom and sliding mechanism that lowers seat height by 2.2-inches and provides 2.5-inches of forward-rearward adjustment in 0.5-inch increments, offering an optimized driving position for a wider range of drivers. Tilt steering and EPS allow a car-like driving experience, while high-elasticity seat material, anti-cinch three-point seat belts, and integrated handgrips enhance comfort and safety. Standard doors and a plastic roof provide mud and weather protection, and wide space between the dashboard and seats allows easy movement through the cabin. Premium touches—including floor lighting, backlit switches, decorative accents, an automotive-style ignition key, and a new sound-dampening rubber sheet at the rear of the cabin—reduce engine noise and elevate the overall interior quality.
On RIDGE CREW models, bench seats accommodate up to six passengers, with contoured seating for the outer four positions and flat center seats for added comfort and a premium feel. The area under the driver’s seat features mesh panels, while the passenger side is open, allowing airflow to reach the rear and provide full climate control benefits. The open space under the front seats also gives rear passengers ample room to stretch their legs, enhancing overall comfort. High-quality interior details, such as smoothly fitted B-pillar panel covers and seatback panels that conceal the area under the front seats, contribute to a refined look while preventing shins from contacting structural components. Rear doors swing rearward, offering wide access to the back seats and making entry and exit more convenient for passengers.
FULL CAB WITH HVAC (PLATINUM & HVAC MODELS)
The factory-standard full cab on RIDGE models features heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) for year-round comfort. It includes a glass windshield with ridgeline graphic, full doors with power windows, a glass rear panel, plastic roof with liner, wiper and washer, rearview mirror, and interior light. Designed first with the full cab, the cabin seals efficiently for excellent climate control. UV- and IR-cut glass, along with an insulated roof, helps maintain interior temperature, while recessed power window switches add to the premium, automotive-style feel.
On RIDGE CREW models, the powerful HVAC system provides rapid, efficient cabin temperature control, quick windshield defrosting, and improved comfort for rear passengers.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING
Every RIDGE model features Kawasaki’s high-grade electric power steering (EPS) system, designed to provide maximum assistance when it’s needed most—at very low speeds or when stopped. Turning the wheel sends a signal to the EPS ECU, which uses input from the vehicle speed and torque sensors to determine the appropriate level of motor-assisted steering. Assistance is greatest at low speeds and gradually decreases as speed increases, ensuring responsive control. The EPS system also improves ride comfort and handling by acting as a damping system, with the motor’s inertia significantly reducing kickback from shocks transmitted through the wheels.
TILT STEERING WHEEL
The RIDGE steering wheel features a tilting function, allowing drivers to adjust its position according to their preference and lift it out of the way to facilitate entry and exit. The high-grade D-shaped steering wheel not only contributes to comfort but also enhances the high-quality feel of the RIDGE CREW.
TFT COLOR INSTRUMENTATION
A large 7-inch full-color TFT LCD screen in the automotive-style dashboard, enhancing its premium feel. Drivers can choose from three display modes and black or white backgrounds, with automatic or manual brightness for excellent legibility. The screen shows key information including speed, tachometer, fuel, gear, driving and power modes, trip data, and maintenance reminders, while surrounding indicator lamps provide at-a-glance status. When paired with a compatible iOS smartphone, calls and messages appear on the display. The screen also supports up to two accessory cameras (front and rear) and displays lighting status, combining information and infotainment in a single, high-quality interface. On RIDGE Platinum models, two accessory cameras (front and rear) come standard.
New for 2026 (except ST models), when a rearview camera is installed, shifting the RIDGE into Reverse automatically switches the display to view the area behind the vehicle.
SMARTPHONE CONNECTIVITY
Bluetooth technology in the instrumentation allows wireless connectivity with the side x side. Using the smartphone application RIDEOLOGY THE APP POWERSPORTS*, drivers can access vehicle information, log GPS routes, adjust instrument display settings and share profiles and trip logs with other users. Compatibility is limited to iOS-type smartphones.
STORAGE
The dashboard features three covered compartments for small-item storage: a lidded section above the center console on non-HVAC models, a passenger-side glove box, and an additional lidded compartment above the glove box. A convenient pocket in the dashboard center console (on all models except Platinum models) provides easy-access storage for small items. On RIDGE Platinum models, a small pocket integrated into the ROPS A-pillar upper cross member provides storage for sunglasses or other small items. Two cup holders are integrated into the left and right sides of the dashboard, designed to fit 30-oz cups and accommodate handles. On RIDGE models, the center section of the seat back folds down to reveal storage behind the seats and includes two additional cup holders.
On RIDGE CREW models, six cup holders—two on either side of the dashboard and four in the fold-down center sections of the front and rear bench seats—provides ample storage and cup-holding options for passengers while folding down the rear center section also grants access to storage behind the seats. Additional storage is available beneath the passenger seats on both front and rear benches, with the center and right-side seats flipping up to accommodate larger items; gas dampers ensure smooth movement and a premium feel. Two storage nets on the back of the front bench seat provide rear passengers with extra space for personal items, enhancing overall comfort and convenience.
DC SOCKETS & USB PORTS
A DC socket built into the dashboard provides power for accessories or personal devices, while two USB ports are located inside the lidded storage above the glove box. On RIDGE Crew models, a DC socket in the center of the front seat’s rear panel offers rear passengers a convenient power source, and on the RIDGE Platinum models, this is complemented by two additional USB ports.
TERMINAL BLOCKS AND PREWIRING FOR ACCESSORIES
A terminal block located below the glove box provides a convenient connection point for accessories. On models without a factory-installed winch, a second terminal block behind the front bumper allows for easy winch installation. An additional power supply point is also available under the left side of the cargo bed.
WINCH (PLATINUM MODELS)

SUSPENSION
The 2026 KX85 and KX112 are equipped with significantly upgraded suspension components designed to give young racers the confidence and control they needed. Both models now feature a highly rigid, fully adjustable 43mm KYB inverted front fork and a refined Uni-Trak® rear suspension system. On the KX85 L and KX112 models, increased rear wheel travel brings performance in line with full-size KX models, allowing riders to maintain a higher pace across challenging terrain with improved stability and comfort. Together, these updates create a chassis package that elevates handling and boosts rider confidence.
Up front, the new KYB 43mm inverted fork delivers excellent damping characteristics and strong bottoming resistance, supporting aggressive riding. The larger inner tube diameter – upgraded from 36mm to 43mm – not only increases rigidity but also provides greater internal clearance, allowing the damping adjustment mechanisms to operate more effectively. An updated internal leaf valve spring structure ensures smoother damping performance throughout the entire stroke, enhancing front-end control and ride quality. Riders can now fine-tune suspension behavior even further, thanks to the addition of a rebound damping adjuster, which complements the existing compression adjuster. To maximize durability and performance, Kashima Coat is applied to the outer tubes, improving lubrication for smoother action while reducing internal wear and preventing corrosion. The dark Kashima finish also reinforces the high-performance appearance of the new fork design. Additionally, the removal of protrusions below the axle reduces the likelihood of the fork contacting the ground during deep lean angles, improving both cornering performance and overall aesthetics.
The rear suspension features Kawasaki’s proven Uni-Trak linkage system, which makes it easier to achieve progressive damping characteristics. Several key updates further enhance performance: the shock rod diameter has increased from 12.5mm to 14mm, and the cylinder length has been extended from 380mm to 390mm. These changes contribute to firmer damping and better bottoming resistance as the shock nears full compression. On the KX85 L and KX112 models, a revised Uni-Trak linkage rod increases rear wheel travel from 10.8-inches to 12-inches – matching full-size KX models – allowing for superior bump absorption and greater control at higher speeds. With the addition of a high-speed compression damping adjuster, alongside the existing low-speed compression, rebound, and spring preload adjusters, the rear suspension now offers full adjustability, giving racers the ability to dial in an incredibly precise setup for any track condition.
Together, the upgraded KYB front and rear suspension systems deliver a more capable, confidence-inspiring ride, helping the next generation of racers fully unlock the performance potential of the KX85, KX85 L, and KX112.
CHASSIS
The Kawasaki KX85 and KX112 motorcycles are built around a high-tensile steel perimeter frame that is engineered to maximize the engine’s power while providing exceptional strength and torsional rigidity. This chassis allows riders to push harder on the track with confidence, delivering precise handling and stable cornering performance. A newly extended steering head pipe, lengthened by 25mm, increases front-end rigidity, contributing to overall composure and more predictable handling.
In addition to structural improvements, several components have been upgraded to aluminum to reduce weight and enhance responsiveness. The handlebar weight has been reduced from 1.5 lbs. to 1.3 lbs., the steering stem from 1.0 lbs. to 0.6 lbs., and the rear sprocket from 1.4 lbs. to 0.5 lbs. The lighter rear sprocket reduces unsprung mass and rotational inertia, improving rear-wheel responsiveness and making it easier for riders to manage acceleration and control. Collectively, these chassis enhancements create a nimble, responsive platform that complements the performance-focused engines and suspension systems of the KX85 and KX112 lineup.
BRAKES & WHEELS
The braking system was inspired directly by Kawasaki’s larger KX machines, delivering powerful, consistent performance. Front and rear petal disc brakes offer strong heat dissipation and enhanced stopping efficiency. Up front, the brake disc diameter has been increased from 220mm to 240mm. Complementing the larger disc, the master cylinder and caliper have been upgraded to KX250-style Nissin units and utilize dual 25mm pistons. These changes significantly improve braking force, durability, and overall modulation, giving riders greater confidence when approaching high-speed braking zones.
Rear braking performance has also been improved. The rear disc diameter grows from 184mm to 220mm, delivering stronger stopping power and improved consistency. The rear master cylinder has been refined to minimize stroke, reducing excess play at the pedal and allowing riders to apply precise pressure with minimal input. Together, the front and rear braking upgrades provide a more controlled, predictable feel.
Complementing the upgraded brakes are Dunlop’s latest off-road tires, the Geomax MX34, which offer substantial improvements over the previous Geomax MX33 pattern. Riders will experience increased traction across varied surfaces, stronger braking grip, enhanced cornering confidence, and improved front-end feel.
To accommodate riders of different sizes and skill levels, the KX85, KX85 L, and KX112 offer multiple wheel configurations. The standard KX85 features a 17-inch front and 14-inch rear wheel, ideal for younger or smaller racers. The KX85 L, designed for taller riders, adopts 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels. The larger-displacement KX112 shares the same KX85 L large-wheel dimensions, giving developing racers the performance advantages of a full-size wheel setup while maintaining the nimble handling characteristics of a youth motocross machine.
ERGONOMICS
The ergonomics package offers young riders a slim, functional layout that enhances movement and control. The bodywork is designed to deliver the latest KX styling while supporting confident riding technique. A flat-topped fuel tank allows riders to sit further forward when weighting the front wheel in corners, while the slim, flat-style seat makes it easier to slide forward or back to adjust body position. Shrouds shaped to accommodate a wider range of riders also help taller racers find a comfortable fit, and minimalist side covers with flush seams between the shrouds, seat, and panels reduce snag points, improving freedom of movement.
A factory-style 1-1/8” aluminum Renthal Fatbar now replaces the previous braced steel handlebar, offering improved shock absorption and a more premium feel. To complement the new handlebars, the steering stem material has been upgraded from steel to aluminum, enhancing bump compliance and overall composure. The handlebar grips are now positioned 50mm forward and 35mm wider, creating a roomier rider triangle that pairs with 10mm lower footpegs to give riders more space. New medium-compound ODI Lock-On Grips provide excellent feel and allow for quick, tool-friendly replacement thanks to their secure screw-type fastening system. A new handlebar pad also comes standard, reinforcing the factory-style presentation.
The ERGO-FIT handlebar mounts now feature an 8-position adjustable mount, giving riders the ability to fine-tune their riding position. A new upper triple clamp with two sets of handle mount slots, combined with reversible handle mounts, provides four options: 10mm forward, standard, 10mm back, and 20mm back. These positions are further complemented by two height choices using handlebar collars – standard and +5 mm – offering a total of eight possible configurations. This adjustability allows riders to create a personalized setup that suits their size, riding style, and track conditions.
Further enhancing rider stability, the footpegs have been redesigned with several meaningful improvements. The peg width has increased from 40mm to 48mm, offering a larger platform with more teeth for better boot grip and enhanced overall control. The wider construction also improves mud-shedding performance, maintaining traction in challenging conditions. Additionally, the footpegs no longer feature the previous forward-canted angle; instead, they now sit in a flat orientation.
STYLING
The styling of the 2026 KX85, KX85 L, and KX112 takes clear inspiration from Kawasaki’s full-size motocross lineup, giving young riders the same bold, race-focused appearance seen on the brand’s championship-winning machines. From every angle, the updated bodywork communicates performance and purpose, allowing aspiring racers to emulate their Kawasaki heroes as they charge to the front of the pack. The shrouds, which serve both ergonomic and visual functions, complement the aggressive new lines while reinforcing the authentic factory aesthetic these models are known for.
Several new styling elements further elevate the bike’s race-ready presence. The front end features a sharper, shorter fender with a curved profile that follows the contour of the tire, creating a visually cohesive front-to-rear flow that makes the fender appear as though it wraps around the wheel. A new, more compact number plate pairs seamlessly with the redesigned fender, contributing to a clean, modern look that mirrors the styling of Kawasaki’s top-level motocross machines. Revised fork guards – shaped after those on the KX™250 and KX™450 – wrap partially around the new, larger-diameter fork tubes, adding both functional protection and a distinctly premium appearance.
Factory-inspired details complete the cohesive styling package. A new rear sprocket design further reinforces the strong family resemblance across Kawasaki’s motocross range. Black alumite-coated rims echo the look of the factory racing team, while green alumite finishes on the fork and shock adjusters provide signature Kawasaki highlights that stand out on the track. The brushed aluminum swingarm adds to the high-quality image, delivering a polished, performance-driven look that matches the bike’s competitive capability.
ENGINE
The 2026 KX85 and KX112 are engineered to deliver race-proven performance for a wide range of riders, offering two displacement options – 84cc and 112cc. Both engines are designed to produce ample power throughout the rev range, with strong top-end performance that gives racers the confidence to push hard on the track. The KX112, in particular, delivers notably strong low-end torque, providing the punch needed for explosive starts and rapid acceleration out of corners. Aside from the bore and stroke differences, the KX85 and KX112 share the same precision-engineered engine and transmission characteristics, ensuring consistent performance across the lineup.
At the core of both models is a liquid-cooled, 2-stroke single-cylinder engine utilizing a piston-reed valve intake for crisp throttle response and efficient power delivery. A large air intake on the right side of the airbox increases airflow to the air cleaner, supporting the engine’s strong breathing characteristics. Fueling is managed by a PWK 28 semi-flat slide carburetor that contributes to sharp response across the rev range, while carbon-fiber reeds – constructed with a 45° mesh orientation and a 0.42mm thickness – provide ideal low- and mid-range performance. Carefully selected port timing further bolsters low-rpm torque.
To maximize performance at all engine speeds, the Kawasaki Integrated Power-valve System (KIPS) continuously adjusts exhaust port size, enabling both strong low-end torque and high-rpm power. Its two-piece, independent-type design ensures excellent sealing performance, contributing directly to the engine’s overall output. Additional refinements such as a precise digital CDI ignition with a compact direct-coupler igniter ensure a consistently strong spark and simplified maintenance. Nikasil plating on the cylinder bore enhances wear resistance, while a single piston ring minimizes friction, reduces mechanical loss, and promotes optimal break-in characteristics for long-lasting performance. The KX112 further benefits from a longer 99mm connecting rod – compared to the KX85’s 92mm unit – which reduces lateral force on the piston for more efficient power delivery. A resin block integrated into the crankshaft helps reduce crankcase volume, increasing primary compression and boosting overall engine performance, while optimized crank pin press-fit clearance and crank web diameter ensure excellent crankshaft rigidity and longevity.
A separate clutch cover allows quick clutch access, and the pull-type clutch actuation offers smooth operation and straightforward maintenance in demanding conditions. The muffler reduces noise without sacrificing power, featuring a steel-wool layer between the baffle and glass wool to extend service life, while its enclosed end resists mud-clogging during spirited riding
