About Warren
Warren Reid grew up in Southern California and rose to fame during the 1970s. As a kid, he first started riding dirt bikes with his family in the California deserts, and then gained racing experience at the famous Saddleback Park and Carlsbad Raceways, as well as racing the hypercompetitive CMC Night Motocross scene, acquiring a skill set that would lead him to a successful racing career.
Reid’s AMA pro career lasted from 1975 until 1985, only missing the 1984 season due to a broken leg. He had factory rides with FMF Honda and Team Honda, as well as Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha, to become the first and only factory rider ever to race all four Japanese company “Factory Works Bikes.” As his career wound to a close after the 1983 season, he also rode for BMW and ATK.
Finishing his 1975 Rookie Year 9th in the 125 Nationals, he was 6th or better for eight more years and top 7 in the AMA Supercross Championship 4 times. Reid scored 94 top 10 overall finishes, including 16 podiums and a win in the 125MX Class in 1978 at Escoheg, Rhode Island. At the end of his racing career, he raced in selected events, like the Carlsbad 500 GP, four-stroke races, and the occasional AMA National competing for White Brothers and ATK. Reid also tried his hand in the very competitive SoCal speedway circuit, raced the Ascot Grand National flat track, and went to the 1985 Austrian 500 GP for ATK. He followed that up by racing the Baja 1000 for BMW (where he and teammate Tom Kelly finished fourth overall on their Paris-Dakar Rally bike).
A versatile rider, he simultaneously held AMA Pro licenses in motocross, dirt track, road racing, and speedway. He was a five-time Mammoth MX Champion and 1989 VET MX World Champ. In 1986, he earned AMA Grand National dirt track number #27. He raced the first ABC-TV Superbiker’s race for Kawasaki, doing that again two more times following the inaugural event.
He started a Cabinet & Millwork Contracting business after his career wound down, with about 1/2 of the business devoted to Motorsports Race Truck and Race Shop buildouts. He used Honda Generators in many of those buildouts which led to a 30 career with American Honda Mtr Co., starting as as a Northeast US located technical representative with Honda’s Power Equipment Division, and finishing his career in the home office in Sales and Service Management. He recently retired and is enjoying his life in Atlanta with his family in the Eastern US.
Join us on Saturday at the Monster Energy Supercross as we honor Warren.
