Legends and Heroes PR – End of Season Wrap-Up

Legends and Heroes PR – End of Season Wrap-Up

In 2018 I worked with the Legends and Heroes of Motocross Tour to create and distribute their weekly press releases announcing the legend they were honoring each weekend. Below is a release that was drafted in collaboration with Sean Brennan from Feld Entertainment and Alex Moroz from the tour that wraps up the 2018 season.

Legends and Heroes Tour Wraps Up a Successful 2018 Monster Energy Supercross Series

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (May 25, 2018) – The Legends and Heroes Tour traveling moto museum would like to thank all the sponsors, honorees, guests and friends for a successful series of 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

The mobile museum crisscrossed the country with 16 stops in 13 states coast-to-coast and as far north as Foxborough, Massachusetts and as far south as Tampa, Florida.

In 2018, more than 4,000 fans per event made a stop in the museum, and more than 250 racers and fans per event took part in the new for 2018 Supercross Virtual Reality Experience.

Not just reserved for each event, the Supercross VR Experience was also deployed to offsite locations at various radio and television outlets the week leading up to each event. In total, more than 50 different media outlets experienced Supercross through the program. Local celebrities tried the virtual reality goggles and spring bike, showing their fans the fun and excitement of Supercross through their social sharing.

Additionally, local FOX, CBS, NBC and ABC stations, as well as various other television, radio and media personnel, jumped on the bike and got a first-hand glimpse of the intensity and athleticism required to compete in Supercross. More-often-than-not, the experience elevated their heart rates and put smiles on their faces, which made for exciting footage that helped promote the upcoming event.

“From a PR standpoint, the Supercross VR Experience was a fantastic tool that we could use early in the week prior to our athletes arriving,” stated Sean Brennen, Public Relations Manager, Feld Entertainment. “It also served a broader initiative in that we are trying to expose more people to the joy of off-road motorcycle riding while also illustrating the athleticism of our Supercross racers.”

The Legends and Heroes tour stands behind the belief that “We Don’t Leave History Behind” and has kept the founding fathers and mothers pure in their thoughts by honoring the men and women that shaped Supercross and motocross into what it is today. During the 2018 season, the following individuals were honored for their impact on the sport of Supercross and motocross.

  • Anaheim 1 – Jim Wilson
  • Houston – H&H Music Racing
  • Anaheim 2 – David Pingree
  • Glendale – Justin Buckelew
  • Oakland – Steve Simons
  • San Diego – Ron Turner
  • Arlington – Dennis Hawthorne
  • Tampa – Bill West
  • Atlanta – Robby Neeley
  • St. Louis – Joe Burke
  • Indianapolis – Antron Brown
  • Seattle – Eric Eaton
  • Minneapolis – Chad Pederson
  • Foxborough – Dan Cunningham
  • Salt Lake City – Dan Thomas
  • Las Vegas – Tony Berluti

With nearly 5,000 square feet of display space at each event, the Tour was a must-see stop during the Pit Party. Thanks to local friends around the country, each week, the Tour featured some of the best vintage motocross bikes on display in a single location. With different vehicles at each round, guests were able to relive the machines of their youth and show their family and friends what the early days of motocross and Supercross looked like.

“Since 2009, the Legends and Heroes moto museum has had the privilege to be a part of the Monster Energy Supercross series,” said Alex Moroz of the Legends and Heroes Tour. “It has been an epic journey for us bringing the history of our great sport to the fans. Over the last nine years, hundreds of thousands of fans have visited the tour and shared the historic vintage bikes, period race gear and the stories of our rich history of motocross and Supercross.

In 2018, we turned the page and combined with our partners at Feld Entertainment, included a full-body experience that has never been felt in our sport. Fans from 3 to 73 years old came to experience a true race happening with the Supercross VR mobile experience as part of the Monster Energy Supercross Pit Party. Most satisfying were the smiles and great comments from our fans on their experience of racing a virtual Monster Energy Supercross track – priceless!”

The Legends and Heroes Tour would not be possible without great sponsors like: Feld Entertainment, Monster Energy Supercross, Food for Life Bakery, Dunlop, EZup Shelters, Wossner, Yuasa, Boyesen, Motion Pro, Engine Ice, Acerbis, Rockwell, Bell, KTM, Rich Designs, Moto X Roads, The Early Days of Motocross Museum, RacerX, MX Sports, Brad Whitworth Photography, Retro Moto, Cycle News, Pro Circuit and Renthal for help with our awards and Langston Motorsports and Yamaha for vehicles for the Supercross VR Experience. Thank you all for your support.

For the Atlanta Supercross, they have chosen Robert Neeley. Below is the press release for the event.

About Robert Neeley:

Robert Neeley began racing in the early 70’s locally in and around his South Carolina home. Married and working a regular 40+ hour work week, Robert caught the eye of the new Team Green program at Kawasaki. He would become their go-to guy in the early days of Loretta Lynn’s, Ponca City and Lake Whitney.

From 1883 to 1990, Neeley didn’t miss a Loretta Lynn’s. He scored ten top-10 finishes including 5 Senior 30+championships. Robert came back again in 1994 and won the Senior 40+ crown. During that time frame, he also has four Ponca City and four Lake Whitney championships to his credit.

He began racing offroad at the age of 33 and had success there as well winning the 125 National Hare Scrambles Championship in 1988 and qualifying for the ISDE in both Germany and France. He even has five vintage national championships.

Today, Robert no longer competing himself but he serves as a mentor for his grandson GNCC XC2 class competitor Cole Mattison.

Legends and Heroes Tour to Honor Suspension Pioneer Steve Simons at Oakland Supercross this Weekend

Oakland, CA – February 1, 2018 – The Legend and Heroes Tour traveling moto museum is pleased to announce that they will honor motocross suspension pioneer Steve Simons this Saturday night at round five of the Monster Energy Supercross series in Oakland, California on February 3, 2018.

The Tour stands behind the belief that “We Don’t Leave History Behind” and has kept the founding fathers, and mothers, pure in their thoughts by honoring the men and women that shaped supercross and motocross into what it is today. Each honoree receives a special commemorative plaque and a Rockwell timepiece during a special podium presentation on the stadium floor before opening ceremonies.

About Steve Simons:

Steve Simons is a pioneer of suspension technology. His many innovations and inventions helped to propel the sport of supercross to what it is today.

In the mid 70’s he invented coolers for shock absorbers to allow for longer lasting performance, front forks and fork kits that improved handling and allowed the sport of supercross top grow.

He developed the Upside Down Fork that is now the suspension standard not only in motocross but in many other motorcycle applications. His Simons UDX-60 USD forks played a significant role in motocross history as they graced Brad Lackey’s 500cc World Championship Suzuki. Lackey himself credits the forks to his successful championship run.

In the 90’s, Simons co-founded Rockshox, Inc, one of the most successful suspension companies in the sport of mountain biking and again set the standard for performance.

The Legends and Heroes would like to honor Steve this weekend in Oakland and thank him for his contribution to the motorcycle industry and the sport of supercross.
